That’s me in the photo. I am a Trekking Guide and have lived in France since 1990, twenty two of those years in the French Alps near Chamonix.  In 2010 we (my husband Jon de Montjoye and myself) chose to move further south for a good part of the year and have fallen in love with northern Provence, our new home.  My business, Trekking in the Alps (www.trekkinginthealps.com),  still continues,  with Trekking in Provence being an offshoot of this.

I have walked and climbed extensively in Britain, Europe, Australia, North America, Africa and Thailand. I trained as a Teacher of Outdoor Education and History at Bangor University and spent several years working in outdoor centres in Britain. I hold the British Summer and Winter Mountain Leader Certificates and the Mountain Instructor Award. I also hold the European Accompagnateur en Montagne (International Mountain Leader) diploma, which is a legal requirement to lead walks in Europe.

The Alps and now Provence are both office and playground for me. I am obviously a very keen walker, also passionate about snowshoeing. I love exploring the Provencal hills and valleys, the rocky gorges and the charming villages. I often take out my bike for great rides along the quiet roads, over passes that lead from one verdant valley to another. When I’m not walking or riding I will usually be found climbing the superb rock faces, as Provence is home to some of the best rock climbing in the world.

“Great photos, Hilary, and a great holiday too.We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, both in the activities and with the group of people you put together.
So thanks once again to you. You've developed a winning formula which translates well to Provence; we'll certainly recommend it to anyone we can think of who might be up for walking.”

I’m very interested in the flora and fauna of Provence and will be happy to share my knowledge with you. I’m also knowledgeable about the history and geology of this fascinating area. Finally, the most exciting exploration is of course regarding the excellent food and wine of Provence and I am constantly improving my knowledge through research and in the field training!

I’ve written 6 books and contributed to several more - "Trekking in the Western Alps", "Snowshoeing: Mont Blanc and the Western Alps", "Mont Blanc Walks", "Tour of the Matterhorn", "Tour of Monte Rosa", and Chamonix Mountain Adventures.
